Christopher Brodigan Award

Kitabi, Rwanda

In the summer of 2017, I was awarded the Christopher Brodigan Award from Wesleyan University to live and work in Kitabi, Rwanda. For 2 months, I produced documentary film materials and GIS maps for Biocoop--a local, environmental non-profit that works to protect Nyungwe National Forest and empower local communities that rely on the land.

Terimbere Muvumvu

A short documentary on Terimbere Muvumvu, a beekeeping cooperative attempting to pass on their way of life to the next generation of beekeepers. With Biocoop's sponsorship, Terimbere Muvumvu hopes to raise funds to modernize their equipment and build a collection center.

Profile of a Former Poacher

As part of their efforts to protect the biodiversity of Nyungwe National Park, Biocoop hires a number of former poachers to work as field assistants, where they remove invasive species, develop trails, and act as guides for interns.

Immanuel's father was a poacher and shortly after he began to work alongside his father in Nyungwe National Park. But in 2012, all of that changed when he was hired by Biocoop.

Short Films

While in Rwanda, I couldn't help but shoot a short narrative film with the staff of the Kitabi Eco Center--my home base during my stay there. Produced and developed with help from the KEC staff, this film was intended as a thank you for their hospitality and generosity, as well as a way of poking fun of myself and other tourists like me for our low spice tolerance and inability to try new things.
